Morton 3rds v Edinburgh South Cricket Club Mitres on Sun 05 Sep 2021 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 92 runs

Match report This was Farhan's day - with the Bat !

Preparations for the Mitres to bat were well under way when your correspondent arrived at Newfield. Farhan was readying himself to bat at 4 and in a brief pre-match chat our first eleven left arm opening bowler did say something along the lines of I'm preparing for a new career in the Seconds. Even a cursory glance at the scorecard shows how significant his innings was in this match.
Mohandoss had fallen to a very sharp catch and Bailey had been bowled when Farhan went in with the score 9 for 2 after 5.1 overs. From time to time we have seen cameo roles from Farhan towards the end of a Firsts innings but this was altogether different. An innings was built with great application. His 50 contained 5 fours, 5 twos and 20 singles and he had been at the wicket for 27 overs when he retired for a little while on 52. It was only when he returned later in the innings that he unleashed a few expansive shots which addded 3 more fours and a six.

Farhan's most lengthy support came from Raja and Vharish while in a six ball innings Chaitanya made 10 including a towering six.

In the field our bowlers, like Morton's, enjoyed early success. Sharan hit the stumps with the fifth ball of the opening over and with the same delivery of his third over he claimed a second wicket when Mohandoss held a good catch at cover. Our third wicket was taken by Vharish when Farhan held a comfortable catch at mid off so at the end of ten overs, all bowled from the Northern end of the ground in terms of the arrangements for the match, we had Morton 34 for 3.
Jas had immediate success from City end when he beat and bowled Morton's number 3 bat with the fifth ball of the eleventh over. A double change brought Oliver on for the next over. The new batsman clearly believed in the adage "if you flash, flash hard." He did just that at Oliver's second ball and Sohail took an outstanding catch at slip. (Morton 3s 40 for 5 from 11.2 overs.) The end of the 13th over brough two run outs from successive balls. For the first there were two batsmen prancing about in mid pitch and it was an easy matter for Raja to throw the ball to Bailey's gloves to run out the Morton batsman who looked most likely to emulate Farhan. For Morton 6 down quickly became 7 as the incoming bat hit a firm shot to mid on and set off. It looked a reasonable call but Oliver attacked the ball and made a direct hit on the stumps at the bowlers end and up went the umpire's finger. Oliver then bowled a maiden and Jas followed it with a wicket maiden when he showed great agility in taking a caught and bowled chance. Oliver closed he game by taking a wicket with the first ball of next two overs. For the first of these he was aided by a catch by Sharan and for the second he bowled Morton's No. 11.
