Match report Our League appointed umpire, George Dickson, made two interesting comments in relation to this match. The first was " South innings was an innings of two halves." The second was "this slow greenish wicket was quite difficult to bat on." The stats below give support to these contensions.
South batted first after Nab had won the toss. Adnan and Kam batted purposefully and at the end of the 10 over power play South were 50 without loss and the partnership continued until Adnan fell to the last ball of the 14th over with the score on 70. Kam went on to reach 50 from 45 balls and was still at the crease at the 25 over mid-point of the innings when South were 127 for 3. Abhi and Kam were both out very soon after the drinks taken at this stage and this was a factor in the final score of 165 all out from 38.4 overs rather than the 240 or so we were likely to be looking for from our halfway position.
Safi and Manik opened with a very testing opening 10 overs when Livingston had reached 19 for no wicket. Manik took the first 2 wickets to fall. Mir and Asad took the next 2 so Livi were 64 for 4 after 25 overs. Abhi contributed two wickets and Adnan one before a misunderstanding in running brought a doubly assisted run out to make the home side 95 for 8 from 38.1 overs. No more wickets were captured as the 9th wicket pair batted obdurately to the end of 50 overs. However, for South this was "Mission Accomplished" in terms of winning the ESCA Championship.
