John Melon

21 Jun 2013

Although few club members nowadays will know John he was a Mitre member for several years scoring 1900 runs and taking 69 catches and 10 stumpings. He was my vice captain in the early 80's,a steady thoughtful bat and a useful wicketkeeper until his knees gave out.
John was full of joie de vivre ,always had a smile and a joke and certainly crammed a lot of things into his 60 years. He introduced me to golf and became captain at Prestonfield golf club.
Two of his sons,David and Paul played for the club ,the latter captaining the side in the mid 2000's.
His death came only a few months after being diagnosed with cancer
The club were represented at the funeral
