Match report
Hy67ujgtgtfr - Literally me hitting my head off the keyboard…you get the idea?
A broken mower at the Inch forced us to play on the artificial. That should have been a bit of a bonus but it didn’t really turn out that way. Ok, it didn’t at all…not at all…
A whole 4 players that played the Leith match were in the team leaving us a bit disjointed. 6 new faces in and a 7th to fill the man short from the prior week isn’t ideal anytime.
Anyway, let’s pretend we don’t know the score from here and I’ll try create some suspense!
Dom and Ryan were tasked with opening the bowling. Dom should be playing 2’s all the time. His bowling was accurate and troublesome. After his 5 overs he was 1-10. The swing he gets will trouble most batsmen and that was evident. Not a single boundary was scored in his opening 5.
Ryan started well also. His low bounce and pace meaning he was unlucky to only take 1 wicket. A little more expensive but he was very troublesome. The tandem bowling with Ryan and Dom worked well and could be a bowling duo to build upon.
Both wickets were caught by Ali ‘catcher’s mitt’ Mills. Honestly, he doesn’t drop them does he?! Cool as ice, moves into position and takes the ball so easily…its infuriating when you try it and it bounces out like an escaping salmon…
After 10 Ed CC were 32-2. In the 12th over debutant Ollie taken his first wicket, bowling Bilal who was scoring quickly. A good wicket and not bad for your second over for the club! 2 balls later he got his second, bowling Usman as well! A double wicket maiden is a good way to introduce yourself to your teammates!
At 20 overs Ed CC were 61-4. It was a great starting display. Everyone covered the singles, held catches and we made it very tough for them to score. Khan and Aziz turned things quickly though with Z.Ali pushing things further away from South.
As CC upped their scoring rate from 3 an over to a quick 6.3 an over in the next 10 overs ending the 30th over on 124. In that time, we taken only 1 wicket. Ali Mills with his first for the club! He’s coming on a tonne and starting to consistently hit the right areas, 1 to watch as the season develops. Good catch by Ollie not to be ignored. Roshan at the other end did well without result sadly. Ali ended with a second wicket, Welsh taking an amazing quick catch at square leg.
Between overs 30 and 40 Ed CC ended up scoring 89 runs… Nearly 9 an over…Sigh…
I’d like to take a second here and thank Ed CC for being lenient with wides. Honestly, we gave 21 away and they were VERY generous with some. It could have been worse and their umpiring throughout was (more than) fair.
It wasn’t really because of bad bowling, CC just pushed things on. Z. Ali was particularly impressive and well deserved his 82. Sadly, South dropped about 5 catches in the 20 overs after tea. Holding even half could have really turned things but they weren’t exactly easy chances either.
It’s the second week in a row a Z. Ali has taken us to task…Is the Inch an ancient burial ground for anyone named Z. Ali and their ancestors are taking it out on us?! I think so…Maybe Time Team need to be investigating this…Or those paranormal weirdos on Sky at 3am (does anyone watch these shows?!).
Onto batting, I hate this part…
Welsh and Ryan started out well. In the 5th over Welsh was bowled by Imran. He was accurate, moved the ball and built his pressure. It was deserved. He was unlucky not to get more. Ali at the other end was just as accurate and the pairing built pressure forcing South to force the issue. 5 catches in the innings show how much we had to try force it (although Adam’s was pathetic…I won’t insult Karl here; his teaching can’t help me being a bit terrible).
CC got Sohail in the 8th over and, in South style, we basically made it a competition to see who was out quickest. CC bowled well, I need to stress that, but we probably should have not looked so much to force it and just waited for a bad ball. Who knows, we could have got 70 and a batting point (dream big kids…)!
CC pulled out Waqas who could be an extra for the giants on Game of Thrones. Honestly, he was huge!!! The bounce of the wicket did the work Waqas, some about decapitating you, the next breaking your ankle. Ollie run out Ryan for our 5th after Roshan’s dismissal. Harsh to point it out but it happened and was fairly funny, but not at the time.
Waqas just tore us apart and ended with 7. My dream of top wicket taker is fading fast with these figures by people. Mir also got a wicket, harsh to not mention it.
After that we got a proper spanking you usually pay heavily for. Not good at all..
Worst of all, I lost my pen! A 4 colour beautiful pen…I feel like a bad parent who left their kids to party and then suddenly I have to put it flyers to get it back. It’s a bit awkward and depressing, he’s gone but not forgotten…Goodbye my friend.
