Edinburgh South Cricket Club 3rd XI v Watsonian 4ths on Sun 20 Jul 2014 at 1 p.m.
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Thanks to the efforts of First Transpennine Express I turned up over an hour late for the start of the game. Great captaincy. Ian had won the toss and put Watsonians in to bat. At the point I arrived it was 60ish for 3 with Charanjit, Owen and Adam taking the first wickets. Despite some good batting by the young Watsononians side batted wickets continued to fall with reasonable regularity. Adam picking up a couple more, Richard and Robert taking one apiece and Asanka (3 -17) cleaning up the tail. Watsonians finished on 122 all out. Excellent from all the bowlers (although I didnt see Charanjit or Owen bowl!) and everyone got at least one wicket.
After an excellent tea (provided by Cathy!) Brad and Charanjit went out to bat. Brad started carefully while Charanjit went hard making a very quick 16 then was excellently caughat cover. Vishal came in and made an even quicker 15, including a massive straight 6 but was bowled by Lobban. Graham and Brad then slowed things down, dealing in 1s rather than boundaries but the scoreboard was moving along reasonably nicely both lost their wickets in the same over, Brad out to a great over the shoulder catch by captain Borthwick at cover and Graham deceived by M Brian's slower ball. Ian Ross and Robert Edwards then solidified things and a partnership of over 50 took us to within 3 runs of victory. Ian started very slowly, largely as a result of a Saturday night on the tiles, but got into his stride later in the innings before being bowled for 25. Robert batted more fluently and never looked in danger of getting out ending on 19*. Asanka came in to hit the winning run and the thirds claimed their second win on the bounce.
Thanks to Watsons for a fun game in surprisingly nice conditions and to Prabhneet for stepping in and fielding a bit for both sides and batting for Watsonians!
