Edinburgh South Cricket Club 2nd XI v Leith FAB 3rds on Sat 04 May 2019 at 1pm
Edinburgh South Cricket Club Lost by 14 runs

Match report I thought we had 11 players this week but an unfortunate Saturday morning call off left us at 10. Nevertheless we were keen to build on the positives shown last week.

A few changes for the visit of Leith as Aman and Kalyan dropped out and were replaced by Sohail, Sunny, Dominic and Adam.

We lost the toss and Leith decided to have a bat. Aaron and Dom started well both picking up wickets in their opening spells. The Leith no 4 Pratyush started to get on top of the bowling and inflicted some undeserved damage on Dominic's figures. Jeremy was brought on from the Inch house end and immeditaely removed Pratyush and another batsman in his first over. Sunny was bowling well at the other end and conceded only 3 runs off the bat in his entire spell but unfortunately a less than generous interpretation of the wide rule meant that everyone contributed a fair few extras to the total. Sunny took a wicket with his last ball while Jeremy was continuing to make inroads at the other end. Aaron completed his quota and was denied a third wicket despite seeming to draw an edge from the Leith batsman. Fortunately Jeremy cleaned up the rest to end with figures of 5 for 29. An excellent effort.

Our batting got off to a bad start as all rounder Jeremy was bowled in the first over. Graham and Sohail then put on a very good partnership which was looking to take away the game from Leith, but disaster struck as Graham was stumped when he fell over attempting to block a delivery off Fisher, who makes our own Gerry Dodson look like Shoaib Akhtar (this may be a slight exaggeration). Fahad was unfortunate to be run out with a direct hit then Sohail and Keshav put on a partnership with Keshav holding up one end and Sohail scoring at the other with him bringing up a chanceless 50 with successive boundaries off the bowling of Pratyush. Just as it looked like we might win Sohail was caught attempting a pull shot, this heralded a bit of a collapse as Sunny, Paul and Aaron were all out caught without troubling the scorers. Keshav played one leave too many and was bowled leaving Dom and Adam needing 14 to win, but they were unable to do it. It gave me no joy* to give Adam out LBW to lose us the game but he was trapped plumb in front by Sheikh.

Another narrow defeat but again plenty of positives to take. Particular credit this time should be given to Jeremy on his 5 wickets and Sohail on his 50.

*some joy
