Edinburgh South Cricket Club News story

President's Wish List

22 Apr 2014

As a start to my "Wish List"  I take this opportunity to wish all our members and everyone in any way connected to or interested in Edinburgh South Cricket Club an enjoyable season in 2014.

The captains and coaches of our various teams will have their own aims for the season and I wish them success in achieving them. There is no doubt that it will again be a challenging season for the First Eleven playing in the newly formed Baillie Gifford S.E. Championship while at the other end of the club the Fourth team will be looking to record a few wins. My wish is that these sides, in common with  the Seconds, Thirds, Mitres and Juniors all enjoy their cricket.

Mentioning the Juniors I  wish every success to Colin Mills, our Development Officer, in building this section of the club. He has certainly made a most encouraging start.

My "wish list" also extends to other matters that will assist with the smooth operation of the club and cement our place within the Inch Park Community Sports Club umbrella. (Colin's work already does this but we do need to do more particularly as we shall now have two teams playing at Inch Park on most Saturdays in the season.)

It is my very strong wish that members respond to the weekly requests that they receive requesting a note of their availability for matches scheduled for the following week. Doing this would result in teams appearing on the web site earlier in the week than they have done previously and reduce the number of 'phone calls that our captains have to make to field a team. In not doing so in a week in which we recive 44 responses for 4 teams you run the risk of the selectors thinking that you are unavailable and perhaps missing out on playing in a  match.

I also wish to see our teams using the IPCSC clubhouse both for changing in and for social purposes after the match to chat with our team mates and opponents - soft drinks and coffee are available in addition to beer, wine and spirits.

Increased participation in the 200 Club and a willingness by members to assist with necessary pre-match setting up and clearing up post-match are also on the "wish list."
